"An Honest Thief" is a work by a classic of Russian literature and one of the best world-class novelists F. M. Dostoevsky (1821–1881). The concepts "honest" and "thief" are incompatible. However, the author achieves the effect of surprise. First he declares that he is honest there are no thieves, but then there is a story about an "honest man" who was such until he became a "thief". The writer explores psychological nature of people. Dostoevsky created many other wonderful stories and novels - "The Idiot", "The Brothers Karamazov", "Demons", "Poor Folk", "The Insulted and Humiliated", "The Gambler", "White Nights", "The Meek one", "The Boy at Christ's Christmas tree", "Eternal Husband". The importance of Dostoevsky's work for world literature and philosophy is difficult to overestimate. Without exaggeration, he can be called the most famous and widely read Russian writer, who gained fame not only due to the artistic merits of his prose, but also due to their philosophical and moral content.
