"Mumu" is a psychological story by Ivan Turgenev about a deaf-mute janitor Gerasim, who, due to the whim of his mistress, was forced to separate from his beloved and drown his only one friend - a dog. The author sympathizes with the simple and kind Gerasim, and portrays his mistress as tough, cynical and capricious.
