The novel addresses the issue of immigration in German society, the increasing phenomenon of racism towards foreigners, and monitors the reality of immigrants from multiple backgrounds and nationalities. The novel centers around the character of a racist employee who works in an office that grants residency to immigrant families, and who, through the powers granted to her at work, tries to persecute immigrants and obstruct their obtaining residency papers. The novel follows the background of this employee from the social, familial, and psychological aspects, and monitors her hostile behavior toward her neighbors in the neighborhood of foreign origins. The novel tells us the story of each one of these neighbors, the reasons that prompted him to emigrate, the big dreams he had in his imagination about a European paradise, and then the disappointment he experiences when he arrives in the country and collides with reality, the people, and the system of values.
