"Zakhar Berkut" by Ivan Franko is a historical novel that describes the events of 1241, when the inhabitants of the Ukrainian Carpathians fought against the Mongol-Tatar invasion. The author portrays the soldiers as courageous and fearless: Zakhar Berkut, who heads the community of the village of Tukhlya, his son Maksym risk their lives, and the boyar's daughter Myroslava leaves her treacherous father to follow the path of truth. Against the background of historical events, a romantic line also emerges - the love of Maksym and Miroslava, whom fate eventually led to marriage. Victory can be achieved only in unity and solidarity - this is the main idea of Ivan Franko's story "Zakhar Berkut".
