George R. R. Eric Velhagen began drawing at an early age. After discovering the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien and the powerful artwork of Frank Frazetta, he realized that he wanted to devote himself to fantasy art. But it took twenty-five years, after getting sidetracked working as a freelance advertising illustrator and in construction, for him to finally take the leap. Since submitting paintings to Spectrum 17, Velhagen has twice been nominated for a Chesley Award in the unpublished category. He lives with his wife and his son in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
