Currently in the grip of a military junta whose crimes against humanity have been condemned across the world, Burma has been much in the news on account of the people's uprising in 2007 and 2008's devastating cyclone. Despite this, much about the country remains unknown to travelers and would-be travelers. Over a lengthy period, the authors undertook a series of journeys through Burma to uncover the truth about life in the country today, and also to document the beauty and cultural heritage of this troubled yet remarkable country.
