Elias gehört in Deutschland zu den bekanntesten Werke Mendelssohns, doch nur wenigen dürfte bekannt sein, dass er nicht auf Deutsch komponiert wurde, sondern 1845 als Beitrag zum Birmingham Triennial Music Festival entstand und erst zwei Jahre später in einer deutschen Übersetzung in Berlin aufgeführt wurde. Das auch im anglo-amerikanischen Sprachraum äußerst populäre Werk wurde vom orchestereigenen Label LSOlive in der englischen Urfassung zum Auftakt seines 25-jährigen Jubiläums ausgewählt, mit keinem geringeren als dem britischen Bariton Gerald Finley in der Titelrolle.
