Herbie Mann war der "Rattenfänger" des Jazz - seine
berühmter "Flow" auf der Flöte lockte Legionen von
Musikliebhabern in seine wunderbar offene Welt der
Instrumentalmusik. Oft kam darin Bebop mit
dem, was später "Weltmusik" genannt werden würde
zusammen, von Afro Cuban über brasilianische
Musik bis zu Musik aus Afrika oder dem Nahen
Osten.
Geboren als Herbert Jay Solomon am 16. April
1930 in Brooklyn, New York, war er einer der
ersten Jazzmusiker überhaupt, der sich auf die
Flöte spezialisierte. Die neunzehn Originalalben in
diesem 10 -CD-Box-Set dokumentieren die frühe
Karriere von Herbie Mann mit einigen seiner besten
Alben der späten 50er und frühen 60er Jahre - eine
Schatzkiste für Sammler und Neulinge.
