Diese Box ist ein musikalischer Hochgenuß für alle Jazz- Fans, denn auf zehn CDs veröffentlichen wir sage und schreibe 20 Originalalben des Modern Jazz Quartet. Die 1952 gegründete Gruppe machte sich einen Namen durch ihre einzigartige Kombination von Cool Jazz und europäischer Kammermusik. Das lockte besonders in Europa auch viele Menschen in die Konzertsäle, die bis dahin keinen Jazz hörten. Jahrzehntelang konnte die Band bei ihren weltweiten Gastspielen große Erfolge feiern. In den 1960er Jahren kam das Quartet nur noch sporadisch zusammen, ansonsten widmeten sich die Mitglieder anderen Projekten. 1974 trennte man sich, kam aber ab 1981 wieder zusammen und tourte weiter durch die Welt. Die letzte Aufnahme erschien 1993.
