Der vorliegende Mitschnitt von den Händel-Festspielen Göttingen 2018 präsentiert mit The Choice of Hercules eines der leider eher selten aufgeführten Oratorien Händels, was womöglich an dessen relativer Kürze und dem weltlichen Sujet liegt. Jedoch scheint auch hier immer wieder der erfahrene Musikdramatiker Händel durch. Ihm zur Seite steht mit dem pompösen Dettingen Te Deum (zur Feier des Sieges bei Dettingen im Rahmen des Österreichischen Erbfolgekrieges im Jahr 1743) eines der populärsten geistlichen Werke des Komponisten. Für musikalische Feierlaune sorgen Laurence Cummings, das Händel-Festspielorchester, exzellente Solisten sowie der berühmte Christ Church Cathedral Choir Oxford.
