Obwohl Humor in vielen seiner Opern als eine Art sparsam dosiertes Gewürz eingesetzt wird, gilt Leos Janácek nicht unbedingt als Komponist komischer Musikdramen. In der satirischen Oper Die Ausflüge des Herrn Broucek sprüht er allerdings regelrecht vor Humor. Es gelang ihm in dem 1920 uraufgeführten Werk, seine avancierte Musiksprache weiterzuentwickeln und sie mit doppelbödiger Komik anzureichern. So wird etwa der satirische Witz der Handlung durch Musik im Tanzrhythmus und die Verwendung ungewöhnlicher Instrumente wie Glasharmonika oder Dudelsack perfekt umgesetzt.
