Autorenporträt

Georg Friedrich Händel studierte zunächst Jura in seiner Geburtstadt Halle. Von 1703-1706 war er Cembalist an der Hamburger Oper und 1709 Hofkapellmeister in Hannover. Ab 1710 lebte Händel als Opernkomponist in London, nach 1728 hat er sich stark dem Oratorium zugewendet.

Joachim Carlos Martini, Musikforscher und Dirigent, geboren 1931 in Chile als Sohn deutscher Eltern. Studium der Philosophie, Germanistik, Geschichte, Kunstgeschichte und Musikwissenschaft in Göttingen und Frankfurt am Main, u.a. bei Horkheimer und Adorno. Kantorenexamen, ergänzt um Dirigierkurse. Seit über 40 Jahren musikalischer Leiter der Jungen Kantorei Frankfurt am Main. Initiator des Archivs »Verfolgtes Musikleben in der NS-Zeit«; zahlreiche Publikationen und Ausstellungen zu diesem Thema, u.a. in Frankfurt am Main, Leipzig, Straßburg, Chicago. Bundesverdienstkreuz 2002.
