Desert Flower

sehr gut

First we want to say that we have to do this judgement for our English lesson.
We liked the book because of his emotional and touching story.
Waris Dirie tells her own story, where she goes throw a circumcision, a flight from her family, espacially her dad. With troubles she starts a modelling career, but in the end her life is much better. She falls in love with her later husband, Dana, and gets a son from him, Aleeke. Now we show the structure from the book especially.
The book has 18 chapters and it starts with a traditional somali poem and that there is a note from the author.
Then Waris thanks all the people she can think of – the acknowledgements.
The story begins with a face-to-face scene with a lion. The reader is immediately thrown into the story.
In the first chapter she tells about her walk through the desert and about her running away.
Then there is a flashback and it's told why she has run away and Waris tells us something about her family. After a while there is a flashforward to tell the story from where she stopped the first time. Waris talks about the changes she goes through and how she becomes a woman and starts a modelling career. In the middle of the book there are some photos of Waris in different times, for example with the father of her child, Dana or of her pregancy – with the baby Aleeke.
We think the book is well stuctured and includes a lot of interesting information.
We like the idea of the pictures, so you can really see what Waris, her husband and her baby look like.
Thank you very much :)
