When I heard of this novel at school I had prejudices at first. A book that is nominated for a school lecture can’t be enjoyable. When I read the first pages of the novel the prejudices were confirmed. But some pages later the prejudices were disproved. Later it was really amusing to read. It’s fun to read David Lodge’s characterisations of the different characters, like Victor’s family which is very well described. With the help of small jokes which you can find everywhere in the book it never gets boring while reading. All in all I think there are better books to read.
