Not my type of book. - felt just a little flat and boring. I also don't like the macho behavior..

The Maid / Regency Grand Hotel Bd.1

Ich habe dieses Buch gelesen ohne wirklich zu wissen was mich erwartet. Mehr noch, ich habe nur das Cover angeschaut und dann mit der Geschichte angefangen. Manchmal ist das die beste Idee, finde ich. Und so war es auch dieses Mal. Das Buch hat mir gut gefallen und ich habe mich fast durchgehend unterhalten gefühlt. Das einzige Manko ist, dass ich den Schluss etwas unlogisch finde. Ich weiß jetzt nach dem Lesen von Rezensionen, dass viele gerade das Ende sehr schön fanden. Ich muss zugeben, dass es mich eher gestört hat und ich es unlogisch fand.

Molly ist als Protagonistin ziemlich.. sagen wir einmal anstrengend. Mit ihrer besonderen und unangepassten angepassten Persönlichkeit (ja, das habe ich extra so geschrieben) wirkt sie in einer Minute wirr und naiv, doch in der nächsten stellt sie eine Situation ganz sachlich und klar dar. Molly ist anders oder eben so wie oben beschrieben "unangepasst". Sie versucht sich sozial angemessene Normen und Regelungen zu merken, doch in neuen oder unklaren Situationen wirkt sie völlig hilflos. Sozial unbeholfen - so könnte man es vielleicht am besten beschreiben. Beim Lesen ist das manchmal SEEEHR anstrengend, aber da es zur gesamten Geschichte beiträgt, hat die Protagonistin ihren Sinn erfüllt.

Ich habe dieses Buch schon sehr lange in meiner TBR-Liste stehen.. Und nach unzähligen Rezensionen auf TikTok und Co. wollte ich es endlich auch lesen. Und um gleich die Fragen vorab zu klären: Ja, ich habe das Buch zu Ende gelesen und nein, ich weiß ehrlich gesagt nicht wieso.

Die Geschichte ist sehr eigenartig, an manchen Stellen jenseits von glaubhaft und nahezu triggernd. Die Art und Weise wie die zwei Protagonisten im Buch miteinander umgehen...puh! Das klingt nach einer toxischen Liebe oder zumindest nach einer nicht gesunden, fördernden Beziehung. Die Tatsache, dass beide noch sehr jung sind (Teenager) macht die Geschichte des Buches noch komischer, weil es so wirkt, als hätte man sie um jeden Preis noch "krasser" wirken lassen wollen. Im Endeffekt hat das Buch einen komischen Vibe, nichts daran hat mit wirklicher Liebe oder Gefühlen zu tun. Deswegen absolut nicht empfehlenswert. Wenn du selbst noch unter 20 bist, dann gibt es ohnehin viel bessere Bücher als diese "Teenagerdrama-Geschichte".

Anywhere / Dunbridge Academy Bd.1

Das Buch ist eher was für Teenager bis maximal 18. Danach ist das Buch nicht mehr interessant, da es zudem noch sehr oberflächlich gehalten ist. Die Geschichte ist an sich okay, aber an vielen Stellen unausgereift und sie wirkt auch so, als wären typische Teenie-Klischees extra eingebaut...Schade

Like Snow We Fall / Winter Dreams Bd.1

Die Geschichte besitzt viel, was einen in "Winterstimmung" bringt. Allerdings war die Beziehung der zwei Hauptcharaktere recht oberflächlich und lies somit keine echten Gefühle aufkommen. Auch das Ende wirkt sehr abrupt und die Lösung scheint ganz plötzlich da zu sein, was das ehemalige Problem fast nichtig erscheinen lässt und das obwohl es eigentlich ein RIESEN Problem war..

Fragile Heart / Scarlet Luck Bd.2

Der zweite Band der Reihe hat mir etwas besser gefallen als das erste Buch. Allerdings haben sich die Mankos vom ersten Teil noch weiter gezogen und in mancher Hinsicht auch das Ende der Geschichte für mich schlechter gemacht. Im Allgemeinen ist die gesamte Story sehr stark in die Länge gezogen worden. Ich glaube, wenn man alles in ein Buch gepackt hätte, wäre es deutlich besser gewesen.

Beide Hauptcharaktere sind sehr dramatisch veranlagt und zudem psychisch angeschlagen. Ich mag die Kombination nicht sonderlich gern, weil man Menschen mit psychischen Herausforderungen ohnehin in Schubladen steckt. Die Story macht es einem schwer, dies nicht selbst zu tun. Beide Protagonisten brauchen Hilfe und erkennen das viel zu spät an. Die Liebe, die sich zwischen den beiden entwickelt ist fragil (wortwörtlich) und gegen Ende des Buches von Herzschmerz auf ewige Liebe zu schießen, war unrealistisch. Trotzdem eine nette Unterhaltung.

Lonely Heart / Scarlet Luck Bd.1

Die Geschichte ist schön, wobei ich zugeben muss, dass mit die Protagonistin etwas zu dramatisch schien. Und das an den falschen Stellen. Sie hat ein paar Dinge erlebt, die man als traumatisch einschätzen kann. Dabei fängt sie sich relativ schnell. In anderen Situationen flippt sie komplett aus, ohne dass man genau weiß warum. Bei ihrem männlichen Gegenpart versteht man schnell, weshalb er so ist, wie er ist. Das erste Buch endet so, dass ich mir den zweiten Teil eigentlich nicht kaufen möchte. Denn die Geschichte wird meiner Meinung nach extra in die Länge gezogen, um einen weiteren Band zu rechtfertigen. Im ersten Buch passiert einfach noch nicht so viel. Schade..

Hat mir leider gar nicht gefallen. Sehr langweilig und mit Klischees gefüllt. Habe kurz vor der Hälfte des Buches abgebrochen, weil es einfach nicht besser geworden ist.

Snowed in for Christmas

"She's snowed in with her family. The only problem? It's not her family." Those were the words (along with the beautifully drawn cover) that made me want to read the book. I didn't really know anything more, because I've already read a few of the author's books and was looking forward to a sweet family Christmas story. But don't be fooled, it was pure family chaos and not of the pleasant variety I was hoping for.

The basic idea of the story was sweet and would have been perfectly fine for me. However, the characters really, really made the story worse for me. Especially Nana Jean, a know-it-all and annoying old woman got on my nerves after just a few pages. When you don't have a life of your own, you interfere with someone else's - she's the perfect example of that....

I liked the Miller siblings, each had their quirks and yet were interesting in their own way. Yes, the right choice of communication doesn't seem to be easy in the Miller family. Still, I liked the trio of siblings.

The father of the family was a classic "I don't understand and I'll stay out of it" kind of dad. That's why he didn't interest me in the story. His way of dealing with work stress is typical baby boomer behavior and mainly annoying. But that's all.

Lucy, the surprise guest, was a little too insecure for me only to firmly believe in her work again a few pages later. I could hardly muster up any interest for her either.
It's all downhill from there. The mother of the Miller family is REALLY exhausting. In the beginning we are told that she is very intrusive and while she tries hard not to interfere in her children's lives.... But it seems that she hardly succeeds in it. Last year she did something that in my opinion is an absolute no go... hello second-hand embarrassment..

But the absolute horror was Nana Jean. I can't remember the last time I was so annoyed by a book character. She's old and emphasizes that over and over and over again. She uses it as an excuse for ANY behavior. "I'm allowed to do that I'm old." "Old people are more honest and are allowed to ask questions, they're bored." - All the time she's butting in, crossing boundaries and annoying everyone around her. This is the kind of grandmother you just DON'T invite in real life, but rather put off. As soon as her name came up towards the end, all you could do was roll your eyes.
We get it: You're old.

I finished reading the story, although I don't know why. I think I was hoping for something improving, which didn't come (maybe for the grandmother to sleep for once and shut her * for ten minutes).
This book is suitable for readers who don't have a family of their own and want to know what it would be like to have an annoying mother AND grandma. Otherwise, I can't recommend this book.

I'm Glad My Mom Died

With biography and memoir, it's always a little difficult to give a fair review. After all, you don't want to rate the experience of the author - Oh, you had a traumatic childhood, zero stars - but the reading experience itself. That's especially challenging with this book, because from the first page to the end, Jeanette McCurdy's story is not only sad, but downright depressing.

The book contains many triggers that should be thoroughly looked at beforehand if you have any areas of concern.

The fact that McCurdy talks so much about her personal life, as well as life off the set (specifically regarding the children's channel), sends a cold shiver down your spine. Because it is clear: Not everything is said, but only what the public can take. It's downright creepy to think that under certain circumstances much worse things HAVE happened or COULD have happened - especially concerning the director of the children's station. How she and also many others report about it leaves no doubt about the nature of this person. Not only this one children's station seems to be filled with such people and so it happens that child stars are often, if not always, exploited and mistreated. This aspect leads one to become VERY thoughtful as a reader, especially when it comes to media and acting. For this reflection alone, the book actually deserves a full five stars rating.

I also found it terrible that EVERYONE looked the other way. Instead of seriously supporting the author, people looked away or accepted the behavior of certain people. Yes, she had friends, but they hardly seemed to know anything about the actual situation. And also the grandfather interfered here and there, but also quite half-heartedly. The money, the power and the fame stood above everything. You probably can't imagine that if you weren't or aren't part of it all. If you now look at the scenes of the former actress in the children's show, some things become clearer. Scenes that were previously dismissed as "comical", weird or "funny" now seem to have a completely different background.
Creepy, traumatizing and fearful - that's how the story makes you feel.

At the end, I was missing a serious ray of hope. This one is probably not common for a memoir, but the story itself was so depressing that I felt it was definitely needed. After reading the book, one feels deep sympathy for the author and is left with an uncomfortable feeling for a long time. I hope Jennette McCurdy overcomes her past well and sees her opportunities in the present and future as a young woman.
