Feyre is the sole provider for her family and so she taught herself how to hunt. When one day she manages to kill a wolf she could not imagine the consequences this would have for her future live. The wolf was in fact a faerie and she gets dragged to the faerie kingdom to pay for his murder. Slowly Feyre starts to realize how dangerous this magical world truly is but it is not her captor Tamlin who she should fear the most. Although he is hiding behind a mask at all times Feyre starts to get to know the man behind it. Her anger and resentment soon start to turn into more romantic feelings and she has to decide how far she will go for love.

I’ve heard so much about the ACOTAR series that I just had to finally read it. I know that the series is quite controversial and there are a lot of people out there who absolutely hate it. But I can say 100% that I am not one of those people. I absolutely loved the first book and can’t wait to continue with the rest of the series. The world building was absolutely great and I definitely want to know more about the world and all of its secrets in the rest of the series. I also really enjoyed the characters. Of course there were some moments where I absolutely could not understand their decisions but have you ever read a good book where you did not question the characters at all? So I am absolutely excited to get to know them more throughout the story and see how they develop. As far as complexity goes I would definitely consider it to be a lighter book but that just made me fly through the pages without really putting it down.

A great YA fantasy book that I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a lighter fantasy book with a great love story.

Selection Bd.1

For many girls the Selection is a dream come true, but not for America Singer. Getting in the competition for Prince Maxons affection means that she has to leave her secret boyfriend Aspen behind. But it is also one of the only chances to get out of the rigid caste system and improve her chances in life. Then she gets to know the prince as a person and soon realizes that he is not what she has expected at all. Maybe the life she always wanted is nothing compared to her possible future.

I know this is probably not one of the best books out there but I must admit that I loved reading it anyway. It was giving dystopia combined with „The Bachelor“ vibes and I personally think that’s a great combination. I also enjoyed the idea of this future world as it has the traditional / historical royalty part but also some more modern / future parts. On top this book had some good plot twists as well as some secrets and intrigues that made it quite enjoyable. America is a great protagonist that really fits to the story line. It is fascinating to see how much here character develops throughout the entire book. There were some moments that she really drove me crazy with her attitude but I still liked her and thought she was pretty relatable. And of course I loved Maxon. He is so much more than just an arrogant prince. It is great to see how much he cares about his country and the people living it. Together with America I think he could make a big difference. Aspen on the other hand is definitely not my favorite character but without him and his actions I think America wouldn’t be who she is today. So I guess we do need him after all.

If you like a good dystopia with some bachelor vibes I would 100% recommend this book to you. It definitely is a light read but that’s probably one of the reasons I liked it so much as I just flew through the pages.

Foxglove - Das Begehren des Todes / Belladonna Bd.2

Die Familie hat sich gerade erst von den ganzen Ereignissen erholt als schon das nächste Unheil über sie hereinbricht. Signas Onkel Elijah wird unschuldig des Mordes angeklagt. Als wäre das nicht genug tauch auch noch das Schicksal, der Bruder des Todes, auf und sorgt für jede Menge Chaos. Er ist auf Rache aus, denn vor Jahren hat der Tod ihm die Liebe seines Lebens genommen. Doch jetzt müssen die drei zusammenarbeiten, um Elijah zu retten. Wird es ihnen gelingen und wie wird es mit Signa und dem Tod weitergehen?

Wie schon im ersten Teil konnte mich der angenehme Schreibstil der Autorin überzeugen und so bin ich direkt wieder gut in die Geschichte gestartet. Während ich bisher so meine Schwierigkeiten mit Signa hatte, konnte sie mich in diesem Band deutlich mehr von sich überzeugen. Ich fand es schön zu sehen, wie sich ihre Beziehung zum Tod weiterentwickelt hat, obwohl die beiden nur sehr wenig gemeinsame Zeit hatten. Dagegen war dieses Mal das Schicksal der Charakter mit dem ich mir etwas schwer getan habe. Ich kann nicht verstehen wie jemand der so stark von Rache getrieben ist für das Schicksal aller Menschen verantwortlich sein kann. Ihm sollte eigentlich bewusst sein, dass jeder Mensch irgendwann sterben muss und dass die Frau, die er liebt, davon nicht ausgenommen ist. Ich verstehe auch nicht genau was er sich von dem Hin und Her mit Signa erhofft. Dafür war die Spannung auf jeden Fall wieder vorhanden und ich bin jetzt wirklich neugierig wie es im dritten Teil weitergehen wird.

Alles in allem ist es eine nette Geschichte mit einer deutlichen Steigerung zum Vorgängerband, die ich allen Fans der Reihe gerne weiterempfehle und die von mir 4 Sterne bekommt.

Der Baron

Kurz vorm „Großen Preis von Meran“ verstirbt der Unternehmer und Rennstallbesitzer Berthold Warstein auf mysteriöse Art und Weise. Wieder einmal müssen Lukas Farner und Giovanni Terranostra zusammenarbeiten um herauszufinden, wer hinter der Tat steckt. Berthold Warstein hatte viele Feinde, doch welcher von ihnen steckt hinter seiner Ermordung?

Durch den angenehmen Schreibstil bin ich direkt gut in die Geschichte gestartet. Allerdings haben die vielen Namen mich ein bisschen vor eine Herausforderung gestellt. Bis zum Schluss konnte ich die einzelnen Ermittler nicht wirklich auseinanderhalten und ich habe auch nicht richtig kapiert, wieso eigentlich zwei unterschiedliche Parteien an der Ermittlung beteiligt waren. Die Ermittlungen selbst haben mir dagegen sehr gut gefallen. Es war interessant zu sehen in welche Richtungen alles ermittelt wurde, wodurch es auch viele unterschiedliche Verdächtige gegeben hat. Außerdem fand ich es interessant ein bisschen in die Welt des Rennsports einzutauchen und etwas über seine Schattenseiten zu lernen. Dazu fand ich auch den Lokalkolorit und auch die Anmerkungen am Ende des Buches sehr stimmig.

Alles in allem ist es ein typischer Regionalkrimi mit etwas vielen Charakteren, der sich aber gut lesen lässt und den ich auch gerne weiterempfehle.

The Summer I Turned Pretty

Belly can’t wait until it is summer again and she can go to the beach house. All winter she is counting the days until it’s time to return to her perfect summer place, where she will also see Susannah and the boys again. She has known Jeremiah and Conrad since she was little and has spent her very first summer with them at Cousins. They have been everything between brother figures and summer crushes but this summer everything is different.

I must admit that I have watched the tv show before I read the first book but that did not spoil the story for me at all. „The summer I turned pretty“ is in my opinion the perfect example of a teenager summer love story. The characters are probably pretty immature, naive and a bit dramatic but who honestly expects anything else from a good YA story? The author has an amazing way of adding emotions to everything that is going on and therefore makes me enjoy this story even more. I could not put the book down at all. Honestly I could see a lot of myself as a teenager in Belly which made me like her even more. Don’t expect a deep literary masterpiece because then you will be disappointed. Take it as it is instead and you will find a fun, emotional summer lecture that reminds you of your own days as a teenager topped with an important lesson about family and loss

This book is the perfect summer YA love story with a lot of emotions and some important life lessons for every teenager.

Love is Bold - Du gibst mir Mut / Love is Bd.2

Seit sie Denken kann ist Bonnie in Jasper verliebt. Doch der ist nicht nur ihr Bandkollege sondern auch der Ehemann ihrer verstorbenen besten Freundin. Da sie ihre Freundin nicht verraten will, unterdrückt sie auch Jahre nach ihrem Tod ihre Gefühle für Jasper. Dabei verpasst sie beinahe ihre Chance glücklich zu werden.

Ich muss ehrlich sagen, dass ich Bonnie und Japsers Geschichte geliebt habe. Das ganze Buch war voller Emotionen und beim Lesen ist definitiv die ein oder andere Träne geflossen. Der Schreibstil war super angenehm und leicht zu lesen wodurch man direkt gut in die Geschichte startet. Dazu ist Bonnie eine durchweg sympathische Protagonistin und so konnte man von Anfang an mit ihr mitfiebern. Beim Lesen habe ich quasi mit ihr und ihrer unerwiderten Liebe zu Jasper mitgelitten. Ich mochte ihre Art total gerne und konnte mich gut in sie hineinversetzen. Es war spannend zu sehen wie Jasper nach all der Zeit plötzlich anfängt sie wahrzunehmen und etwas anderes als seine Bandkollegin in ihr zu sehen. Generell ist es der Autorin gelungen ein emotionales und schwieriges Thema in eine wunderschöne Liebesgeschichte zu packen. Keiner der Charaktere trifft seine Entscheidungen leichtfertig und das wird im Buch und auch gerade in den Rückblenden deutlich. Meiner Meinung nach hätte man das nicht wirklich besser machen können.

Eine wunderschöne Liebesgeschichte, die ich jedem ans Herz legen würde, der kein Problem hat wenn beim Lesen auch mal Tränen fließen.

Toskanaträume im Weingut Monte Rosso (Verliebt in Italien)

Um einen Artikel über ein renommiertes Restaurant zu schreiben hat ihr Arbeitgeber Cecilia in die Toskana geschickt. Eigentlich liebt sie ihr aufregendes Leben im Rom, aber von Tag zu Tag gefällt ihr das entspannte Leben in der Toskana immer mehr. Dann lernt sie auch noch Stefano kennen und ist direkt von ihm fasziniert. Er hat gerade ein Weingut geerbt und muss sich entscheiden was er damit machen soll. Dabei versucht sie ihn zu unterstützen und lernt gleichzeitig immer mehr über die dunkle Vergangenheit seiner Familie. Bald muss Cecilia sich entscheiden, ob ihr die Arbeit oder eine gemeinsame Zukunft mit Stefano wichtiger ist.

Auch in dieser Geschichte war der Schreibstil der Autorin gewohnt angenehm und so bin ich direkt gut in die Geschichte gestartet. Zunächst war mir Cecilia als Protagonistin total sympathisch und ich konnte sie und ihre Probleme gut nachvollziehen. Im Laufe der Geschichte ist sie mir aber etwas auf die Nerven gegangen, da sie einfach nicht aus ihren Fehlern lernen wollte und ihre Kommunikation wirklich miserabel war. Erst gegen Ende hat sie endlich begriffen worauf es ankommt. Ich persönlich bin einfach kein Fan von Geschichten in denen ständig gelogen wird bzw. dem anderen etwas bewusst verschwiegen wird. Vor allem wenn es schon gefühlt zig Chancen gab, bei denen der Charakter die Wahrheit hätte sagen können. Trotz allem hat Cecilia am Ende die Kurve gekriegt und so gab es ein wirklich schönes Ende für diese Liebesgeschichte. Außerdem fand ich Stefano einen wirklich gelungenen Protagonisten, der zwar seine Ecken und Kanten hat, aber trotzdem total sympathisch ist.

Alles in allem ist es eine schöne Liebesgeschichte mit etwas vielen Lügen für meinen Geschmack, die ich trotzdem gerne weiterempfehle für alle, die auf der Suche nach einer leichten, sommerlichen Liebesgeschichte sind.

Engagiert Euch!

In „Engagiert Euch!“ spricht der Widerstandskämpfer Stéphane Hessel mit dem jungen Journalisten Gilles Vanderpooten über das was jeder einzelne zu einer besseren Gesellschaft beitragen kann. Er erklärt seine persönliche Vorstellung von einem engagierten Leben in einer komplexen Welt. Das Ganze darf eben nicht nur im Kopf passieren, sondern muss auch in Taten resultieren.

Ehrlich gesagt bin ich bei dieser Bewertung ziemlich hin- und hergerissen. Bezüglich seinen Aussagen kann ich Stéphane Hessel überwiegend zustimmen. Auch wenn das Buch schon etwas älter ist, ist das Thema relevanter wie je zuvor. Es ist und bleibt wichtig sich für eine bessere Welt zu engagieren und nicht tatenlos zuzuschauen. Allerdings verstehe ich nicht warum aus diesem Interview ein Buch gemacht wurde. Mit dem Umfang bzw. dem Inhalt hätte es auch einfach ein ganz normaler Artikel in einer Zeitung oder einer Zeitschrift sein können. Warum man das ganze als Buch gedruckt hat ist mir ehrlich gesagt schleierhaft. Wenn man das Ziel vor Augen hat, möglichst viele Menschen zu erreichen wäre vermutlich sogar ein Online Artikel besser gewesen. So wirkt es doch eher so als wollte damit jemand einfach nur Geld verdienen.

In meinen Augen eine wichtige Message, aber eine eher unpassende Umsetzung und daher kann ich auch nur 2,5 Sterne geben.

Die Buchhandlung

Nach dem Tod ihres Mannes beschließt Florence Green einen eigenen Buchladen aufzumachen. Obwohl das Haus renovierungsbedürftig ist und von einem Geist heimgesucht wird, lässt sie sich nicht von ihrem Vorhaben abringen. Zunächst bleibe die Dorfbewohner skeptisch, doch Stück für Stück schaffte es erste Stammkunden zu gewinnen und Umsatz zu generieren. Doch dann beschließt sie den neuen Roman des bisher unbekannten Autors Vladimir Nabokov auszustellen und sorgt so für einen Skandal in dem kleinen beschaulichen Örtchen.

Der Schreibstil der Autorin war angenehm und leicht und so bin ich ganz gut in die Geschichte gestartet. Leider ist das auch schon eines der wenigen Dinge, die ich positiv über dieses Buch berichten kann. Florence ist kein wirklich sympathischer Charakter. Auf mich wirkt sie furchtbar naiv (wer eröffnet einen Buchladen ohne Ahnung von Büchern oder wie man mit Geld umgeht?) und zwischendurch auch eher arrogant. Außerdem hat sich mir bis zum Ende nicht wirklich erschlossen um was es in diesem Buch überhaupt gehen soll. Sie kämpft gegen verschiedene Hindernisse, trifft schlechte Entscheidungen um am Ende eben doch zu verlieren. Wirklich Spannung kam dabei bei mir nicht auf und ich konnte auch bei Florence keine Leidenschaft für ihr Projekt erkennen. Ich habe die ganze Zeit auf den Plot Twist gewartet, der einfach nicht gekommen ist.

Das Buch war zwar leicht und angenehm zu lesen, aber es kam überhaupt keine Spannung auf und so würde ich es ehrlich gesagt auch nicht weiterempfehlen und nur 1,5 Sterne vergeben.

A Song of Ice and Fire 01. A Game of Thrones

The first volume of „A Song of Ice and Fire” is introducing as to a great new fantasy world. The typical rules of a year with for seasons do not apply here and so a summer can last for decades and so can the following winter. But winter is coming and nobody knows it better than the Starks of Winterfell whose head Lord Eddard Stark is the warden of the north. King Robert is however looking for a new hand and he wants no one else besides Ned to fill this honored position. For Ned this is as much a curse as it is an honor. Life at court is full of intrigues and everyone is only looking out for themselves. Now the Stark family is split apart and has to fight against the treachery while being separated. At the same time the Dragon king living in exile is claiming his right to the throne.

I don’t think there is anything new I could add to the thousands of reviews already out there but since I review almost every book I read I did not want to make an exception here. To be honest I have no clue why I waited so long to finally start reading the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series. With all the different characters it took me a while to understand who is who and how they are all connected. But once I got a hang of it I kind of flew right through the story. So far I have not watched the tv show yet because everyone keeps telling me to read the books first. Therefore I can not compare the two at all but I also do not think that this is necessary. While reading this book I really enjoyed the style of writing and also the great world building. I loved to have so many different POVs so I could really learn a lot about this world and all the characters and families in it. Although some characters are more important than others I would not say that there is one main character and therefore it’s not like most books where you can really watch one protagonist grow and change throughout the story. As the series progresses I hope we will see more developments in the main characters though. “A Game of Thrones” is probably not the best fantasy book out there but it is a story that I really enjoyed. Therefore I am really looking forward to reading the other books in the series as well.

In my opinion it’s a great start of the series and I will definitely continue reading the next book soon. 100% recommendation from my side.
