Produktbeschreibung
This book, now in its revised and updated third edition, is designed to meet the needs of both novice and experienced sonographers by offering a superbly illustrated, wide-ranging account of the use of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of vascular diseases. Each of the main chapters is subdivided into text and atlas sections. The text part documents the relevant ultrasound anatomy, explains the examination procedure, specifies the indications for diagnostic ultrasound, describes normal and pathological findings, and considers the clinical impact of the examination. The atlas part presents a rich compilation of case material illustrating the typical ultrasound findings for both common vascular diseases and rarer conditions that are nevertheless significant for the vascular surgeon and angiologist. The new edition places special emphasis on the role of hemodynamics in clinical symptomatology, and the use of spectral analysis techniques is fully explained. Particular attention is also drawn to the sources of potential discrepancies between investigative methods, including different ultrasound studies, the role of contrast-enhanced studies, and the therapeutic consequences of pathological findings. Helpful algorithms are included to illustrate how targeted ultrasound diagnosis often permits therapeutic planning without the need for further imaging techniques.

Autorenporträt
Wilhelm Schäberle has many years of experience as a vascular and visceral surgeon. As Chair of the German Society for Vascular Surgery and Vascular Medicine (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gefäßchirurgie und Gefäßmedizin, DGG) and through his participation in the decision-making bodies of the German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (Deutschen Gesellschaft für Ultraschall in der Medizin, DEGUM) he has made important contributions to the continuing development of ultrasound diagnosis. Dr. Schäberle is the author of numerous publications. He has conducted certified courses in vascular ultrasound for more than 20 years and has been responsible for many other training courses and congress contributions. All of this experience is amply reflected in the didactic quality of the book.

Rezensionen
"This is an extremely useful and nearly exhaustive reference for the use of ultrasound in diagnosing and monitoring vascular disease. The third English-language edition provides necessary updates to clinical guidelines since the previous edition was published in 2010. It is perhaps of greatest utility to those who interpret and generate clinical decisions based on ultrasound findings." (Katherine Hekman, Doody's Book Reviews, April, 2019)
From the reviews:

"A very useful aspect of this book, particularly for students, is the presentation of normal as well as pathologic ultrasonographic findings side-by-side with their angiographic "gold-standard" findings. For the clinician, the case scenarios are quite useful in helping to demonstrate the clinical use of ultrasonography. This is a high quality publication with good theoretical descriptions of how ultrasonography can be best used and excellent illustrations to accompany the text. The applications are up-to-date and thus make the book a useful addition to any vascular labor radiology suite." Doody's review, April 2006.

"The emphasis in the book is on the clinical aspects that are relevant to vascular technicians, surgeons and those interested in vascular investigations. ... Each chapter is very nicely arranged into sections on normal vascular anatomy, examination techniques, documentation and then the clinical role. ... Overall, the book achieves its aim with a good overview. In this regard it would be an essential part of any vascular library. ... the book itself is easy to read and I think of immense reference value ... ." (Dr. Roger Moshy, RAD Magazine, August, 2006)

From the reviews of the second edition:

"This is the English version of the third edition of Wilhelm Schaberle's book, first published in German. ... this would be a very useful book for a vascular ultrasound imaging department as a reference and to aid confidence when unusual findings are made. ... is an invaluable aid to good practice in the field." (Colin Deane, Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology, Vol. 38 (2), 2012)
