Creativity is the #1 rising skill you need in the workplace. If you have left your creativity behind in the grind to success, thinking that hard work and analytical thinking was all you need? This book is your starting line. The world has changed, grasshopper. The good news about creativity? You snooze, you don't lose. You still have the creative thinking ingredients rattling around in your brain. To access them, you just need to reconnect with the habits you used as a child to explore and learn about the world, and imagine new possibilities. That's where this book will help. You might not be an artist, but everyday creativity is in you. In a good way, like a deliciously warm meal, not an alien-took-over-your-body way. When you make a presentation plant a garden, braid your unicorn's mane, or sneak vegetables into smoothies - you're practicing creativity and building resilience. Every step into creativity forces you to face failure, judgment, and confront uncertainty with a positive attitude. Use the five effortless habits to leap over the obstacle of judgment, to solve more problems, take small risks for huge leaps, and feel more confident and challenged in life and work. Not only will you reap the benefits, but you will give others permission to do the same. If you exercise your creativity every day you can change your brain, change your life. And, people who identify as creative make more money and drive more innovation at work. Which is good because they are also half as likely to be looking for a new job. D.A.N.C.E. describes the five effortless habits for reluctant creatives. Daydreaming: in a specific way for best results Ambiguity for confidence even when you don't know the answer Novelty to fuel your creative ideas Curiosity to wonder how things could be different (you're already doing this one while you reading the back cover of this book!) You've always been creative, and you will be again, if you create the conditions to let it flourish. No arts or crafts needed (unless that's your thing)! Afraid to share your creativity with the world? You are not alone. Fear of judgement holds most of us back from sharing our creativity with the world.. What if you had the courage to stand up and speak from the heart, with new ideas that could disrupt everything? Use the five effortless habits to build your creative muscles and you will have better ideas, take small risks for huge leaps, and feel more confident and challenged in your job. Autorenporträt
Dr. Caroline Brookfield is a Reluctant Creative. She is a veterinarian, creativity speaker, stand-up comic, mom, and now an author. Faced with a false ultimatum of art or science, she chose science. Like many "left brainers," her creativity persistently demanded attention like a cat at dinnertime. Luckily, she learned, that with art and science we can have our cake and eat it too. Balance data and rigor with creative expression to survive the gusting winds of change, with a smile on your face. Caroline received her D.V.M with honours from the Ontario Veterinary College. She is a certified level 2 Creative Problem Solving facilitator, and holds a Certificate of Professional Management from the University of Calgary.Caroline plays in the Rocky Mountains near her home in Calgary, Alberta, that she shares with her long suffering husband, her brilliant teenage boys, a lazy rescue dog, and two cockatiels. Her lectures go unheeded by her family. The dog listens, sometimes.
