Vortices are ubiquitous wonders found in the natural world, such as the circumstellar disc, mesocyclone, and water whirlpools. In 1992, Allen et al showed that an optical vortex can carry orbital angular momentum (OAM). From then on, vortex beams with OAM have found numerous applications, including optical manipulation, quantum information processing, and quantum cryptography. During the last 30 years, significant progress has been made in the optical vortices field.

Produktbeschreibung
Vortices are ubiquitous wonders found in the natural world, such as the circumstellar disc, mesocyclone, and water whirlpools. In 1992, Allen et al showed that an optical vortex can carry orbital angular momentum (OAM). From then on, vortex beams with OAM have found numerous applications, including optical manipulation, quantum information processing, and quantum cryptography. During the last 30 years, significant progress has been made in the optical vortices field.

This book focus on the latest advances in optical vortices field, from fundamentals to applications. The goal of this book is to present the optical vortices to a broad audience. The book begins with the basic knowledge in the field of optical vortices, including the characteristics of optical vortices, generation methods, and OAM detection methods. Then, several important types of optical vortices are introduced, including partially coherent vortex beams, vector vortex beams and spatiotemporal optical vortices. Lastly, the applications of optical vortices are introduced systematically, including in optical trapping, optical communications, imaging and metrology.

Yuanjie Yang is a professor and vice dean in School of Physics, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. He got his PhD degree from Sichuan University (China) in 2008, and after that he had ever carried out postdoctoral research at University of St Andrews (UK), University of York (UK) and National University of Singapore. His research interest mainly focuses on optical vortex beams, orbital angular momentum, plasmonic vortices and optical trapping, etc.

Yu-Xuan Ren is a research associate professor at Fudan University. His research interests include fluorescence microscopic imaging, optical manipulation, nonlinear optics, and wavefront shaping. He has published over 70 research papers with total citation of over 2500 from google scholar.

Carmelo Rosales-Guzmán is a principal investigator at Centro de Investigaciones en Optica (CIO, Mexico) since 2020. From 2018 to 2020 he was a professor at the University of Science and Technology of Harbin (China). From 2015 to 2018 he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the structured light laboratory of the University of Witwatersrand (South Africa). Dr Rosales obtained his Ph.D. degree in 2015 from ICFO-The institute of photonics sciences (Barcelona, Spain). He is currently on the editorial panels of Journal of Optics Frontiers in Physics and APL photonics. His main research interest involves the generation, characterization and applications of structured light. He has co-authored over 90 research articles, which include several reviews and the book Structured Light with Spatial Light Modulators. His significant contributions to the field of structured light, along with the promotion of science in developing countries granted him the 2023 SPIE Early Career Achievement Award.
