Autorenporträt
Long before Charity McCurdy became a radio news personality, wife and mother of two she battled a common bad habit as a child - sucking her thumb.Charity's three older siblings often poked fun at her for continuing the habit well beyond the appropriate age. Her parents tried covering her hands with socks at night, dipping her thumbs in salsa, painting her thumbs with bitter-tasting polish, but nothing seemed to work. Like most bad habits, the longer you let them continue, the harder they are to quit. Ultimately dental braces along with a loathed head gear worn at night made Charity quit cold turkey.Fast forward decades later and Charity found herself in a thumb sucking crisis yet again, but from a different perspective. Her then three-year-old daughter took up the habit, and Charity knew she had to find a way to nip it in the bud before it got out of control. The story of Thumb Stuck was born from this goal as Charity put the idea to text in her smartphone notepad. She started reading the story to her daughter who then began making requests to hear it each night. Within a few weeks, and with the help from teachers at daycare reinforcing it, her daughter kicked the thumb sucking habit. It's Charity's hope that this story helps inspire children and parents to take on the challenge of putting an end to thumb sucking while being rewarded with newfound confidence of accomplishing what once seemed impossible.
