Michael Brighton, is the son of an English aristocratic family, Lord Brighton is suddenly enveloped in a family controversy. In an effort to insulate Mike from the family argument, his father self-exile's himself and Mike to the frontier of America. While growing up at the Brighton family estate, Michael's oriental instructor, Mikasa, sought perfection in fighting skills, physical fitness and preparation for battle. In America while Living next to an Indian village, Mike is best friends with an Indian boy his age who, during their play, continues Mike's education in hunting, tracking, sign language and everything else Indian. When they grow up, things change, the medicine man orders the killing of Two Bear's, Mike's father so he can gain his medicine. Mike goes on the warpath seeking revenge against the Cree village.

Meanwhile, Mourning Dove is leading a carefree life in the Sioux village until the Sioux God Wakan, gives her a vision and attaches her spirit to Mike. Son of Two Bears' conflict within himself causes him to hide among Sioux Indian friends. With advice from the Sioux Medicine Man and the Chief's adopted daughter, Mourning Dove, Mike leaves the village to find peace of mind among the whites.

Mike would like to spend his time with Mourning Dove and Indian friends, but the medicine man, Many Visions advises him to seek an answer to his confusion among the whites. Many Visions forewarns him, he will travel many trails, he will have many battles, he will be given different names, but, answers to his happiness will be found among the whites. Only when he finds his happiness will he feel free to return to live among the Sioux. Many Visions did not relate that the advice given by him, came from Mourning Dove, a greater visionary than he. Hiding both his English Identity and his Indian identity Mike moves from job to job getting involved in fights and gun play.
