He graduated from Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. He worked as an editor and correspondent for many magazines and publishing houses, before he decided to break into the literary scene for the first time in 1924 with his short story "Towards the Three Paths." He first caught attention when he published the story "Ready Life." In 1936, he moved to Kaesong, North Korea, to devote himself to creative writing. Man-sik achieved a rich literary career, with about 16 works that varied between short stories, novels, plays, and literary essays, before he passed away in 1950, at the age of 47.
