The book: 'Perceived Impact of Grid Electricity on Rural Development in Imo State, Nigeria' is developed from an original research work. Deriving from the topic, its main ideas are built around development issues and models, and approach- the ineffectiveness of this in developing countries. National electrification programmes via a central grid though massive in scale and cost, has not widely delivered electricity to the nooks and crannies of vast countries as observed in the study carried out in Nigeria, as underscored in this book. This is in spite of the fact that electricity is a necessary condition for development in rural areas. The book also notes that electricity is only a component in a complementary infrastructure approach to rural development and that effective delivery of electricity in rural areas particularly in vast territories can best be achieved through multiple sources and in a decentralized grid or mini-grid framework. Thus, this book is an interesting piece of academic enterprise, especially for the novelty of its title and themes. It is also a veritable and useful reference for social development policies in poor countries.
