There is a number of research studies in the areas of AVT, but it is hard to find research which specifically focuses on the translation of Taiwanese Mandarin dialogues into English subtitles. Therefore, this book is trying to explore some interesting findings by examining the translation of Taiwanese Mandarin dialogues into English subtitles by gathering the data of a Taiwanese comedy- Cape No.7. Cape No.7 has involved with a lot of local dialect. In order to carry out the translation of Taiwanese Mandarin, it is important to deal with the functions of the dialect and related culture-specific items (CSIs). Therefore, this book has investigated whether the translator of Cape No.7 successfully applied a variety of translation strategies and prioritized the translation criteria properly, to enable the target audience to receive the same message of the film as the source audience. Two research areas have been examined: slang and humour. People who like the research of AVT translation may find this book is interesting.
