Relationships between stepfathers and stepdaughters can be unfathomably complex. When Christin's stepfather reaches the end of a final cancer diagnosis and is told that he has only three to six months to live, she is suddenly invited into his dying process, a role she never expected to play. During his last five, heartbreakingly beautiful days, as he prepares to die, they discover a closeness and trust that can only be shared between father and daughter. Set in the deep south along the Texas Gulf Coast, where the cara cara hunt and the resurrection ferns mysteriously revive, 5 days: A Lifetime of Love in Seven Thousand Two Hundred Minutes is a poetic memoir that tells the story of vulnerability, bravery, the humility it takes to forgive and how it is never ever too late, to live or to love.

Autorenporträt
Christin Marie Staszesky is a poet and memoirist who lives in downtown Houston, Texas. On weekends, she can be found at Hawks Rest, her two-acre sanctuary in Van Vleck, Texas, home to five 500-year-old live oaks. She has been devoted to horses from the moment her mother took her for her first horseback ride in a corduroy blue backpack, at six weeks of age. That ride initiated her place into a family lineage of what Christin calls Horse Listeners. Into her lifetime of equine experience and partnership, she has layered, decades of experience as a yoga practitioner and teacher and is now a respected Gestaltist. Christin's private practice weaves the gifts of equine medicine with Gestalt psychology, neuroscience and somatic wisdom. Christin identifies the Light Rider as her own personal archetype, passionately traveling, without apology, the shadowed and luminous richness of the spectrum of life. She is also an amazing soup maker, beachcomber and stargazer.
