After becoming a township in 1742, Nockamixons rural area in Bucks County thrived due to the routes of the stagecoach, trolley, and canal that traversed the township and brought more industry and businesses. Each of the townships six villages had a general store, a hotel or tavern, and a post office. The majestic cliffs of the Palisades of the Delaware are still home to rare plants and Peregrine falcons. Top Rock, 400 feet above the river, provides a panoramic view of the canal, river, and surrounding countryside. The history of Nockamixon has been preserved in the many buildings that have survived centuries, as well as through the vintage postcards, photographs, and memories of longtime residents chronicled in Images of America: Nockamixon Township.
