The initial mistakes made in North Africa gives many examples of how not to fight a war. The training was less than ideal leading up to the invasion and was due to both doctrinal shifts in thinking and an overall decrease in effectiveness of the military in the post WWI world. Additionally, the logistical mistakes and chaotic planning factors all led to a preponderance of under utilization of air assets. The training and logistics deficiencies ultimately were reversible and as time moved forward, the Allies were able to build up a sizeable and effective force to counter the Afrika Korps. The most compelling examples of mistakes made in North Africa deal with the misapplication of airpower in the initial phases of North Africa.
