Cristiana Marie Quaale lost her mother at birth. Initially, her grief-stricken and nearly overwhelmed father did not know what to do with a child, but with the help of extended family became the kind of dad most girls only dream of. This is a story of familial bonds and rural farm life on desert lands east of the Cascade Range. Though Cristy's home was a former stagecoach stop located ten miles north of Madras, Oregon, her unique experience also touches on the universals of small-town ranch life in the years following World War II.

Autorenporträt
Cristy Carlson lives above Davis Lake outside Winthrop, Washington with her husband Don. Together they operate Cougar Creek Timber Frame in a close partnership of the type Cristy enjoyed with her father Oswald during their years together on their Eastern Oregon ranch. The Christian faith she discovered through church and the Gideons has sustained her throughout her life, and the raising of two fine daughters, Penny and Melinda. Cristy and Don actively support the small community in which they live as proud members of The Kiwanis Club of Winthrop, established in 1949.
