"I keep hearing grown-ups say that kids are resilient. I don't really know what that means. Does that mean I'm supposed to be OK? I can try to be OK. But I'm not, really." One day Gavin was a pretty typical 8-year-old boy. He loved his friends, going to school, playing baseball, and watching YouTube. And then the whole world changed. Some of the changes were sudden and dramatic due to COVID. Some of the changes were gradual and subtle as the world shifted and divided. But, little by little, loss by loss, Gavin's ability to withstand the changes started to waver. He couldn't be around his friends like normal, go to school like normal, or play baseball like normal; and everywhere he turned, all he heard about was this new and scary world. Would things ever be normal again? Would he ever feel normal again? Was he the only one who felt this way? Join Gavin as he bravely lets the reader into his mind as he journeys to and through depression. Hear his deepest thoughts and feelings as he tries to process what is happening in this world and in his body and brain. See how he comes to a place of finally talking about it, learning that he is not alone, and starting on the path toward coping and healing. And, in the end, celebrate with Gavin when he discovers that there is hope and new joy on the other side.
