Sewage sludge is one of the main products generated from municipal wastewater treatment plants. An environmentally safe disposal of sewage sludge is an ongoing problem in many countries of the world. Therefore, practical disposal options of sewage sludge and sewage sludge ash involve some reuse as raw material in the fired clay brick making process. The biological, physical, chemical and mineralogical characterization of the dried sewage sludge, sewage sludge ash and clay materials were carried out, in order to identify the major technological constraints. The international toxicity characteristic leaching procedure tests show that the concentration of the toxic heavy metals leached from all mixes of the produced bricks is below the regulatory limits. As a result, bricks can be beneficially introduced into the brick making industries for the conservation of both energy and raw clay minerals. Also, the attained chemical fixation makes the disposal of these bricks and their remainsin municipal landfills environmentally safe.

Dr. Adi Said obtained his Ph.D. degree in analytical chemistry from University of Jordan. He has 14 publications and studies. He held several posts at Royal Scientific Society-Jordan since 1994 the latest is a researcher. He has over twenty three years experience in both classical and instrumental analytical/bioanalytical chemistry.
