Antoinetta DeWit was born in The Netherlands and came to Canada as a baby. The family eventually settled in a small hamlet named North Bend in the province of British Columbia, Canada-a railway and logging community, and a place where there was a lot of time for curiosity and imagination to make days enjoyable and magical. The contrast between an early village life and later city life helped her to develop a joy in creative thinking and writing.
