This book raises the question whether the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (the SCO) can play the role that is prescribed in its basic documents in its current state. The authors summarize the views of the expert community on the SCO in the following way: "Over the years of its existence, it has not evolved into a typical association with developed multilateralism. Despite the presence of the necessary attributes of the international organization, it really represents a platform for the establishment and development of bilateral relations between its members". Character and peculiarities of the SCO, its antiterrorist activity, current expansion of the Organization are assessed in the book. An analysis of the state of economic cooperation which becomes the defining factor in the SCO was given. New trends in the SCO activity in the second decade of the XXI- century are revealed by the authors. Taking into account the contradictory nature of the Organization itself, its current state in conditions of expansion, the authors are questioning the SCO's ability to ensure security in Eurasia today.
