What you have in your hands is the result of the research work I did during my stay in the NTNU in Trondheim, Norway. The research was done for a seismic prospection company and the main topic was to find and to study the best suited wireless communication system for the company's land seismic operations. The thesis provided a survey of the most important wireless data network technologies available to date. A comparison between them was done in order to determine the best suited for the company's communication mechanism. The study lead to the conclusion that IEEE 802.11g was the most suited technology. Through the use of high gain antennas, modification of MAC layer parameters and the proper channel allocation, the suggested solution was capable of responding what the company needed.
