In this book, a realistic 3D FE model of two spinal segments under compression loading was generated. A method of generating a finite element model of L3-L5 motion segment has been developed as a base model for finite element analysis. The model was developed from CT images and prepared for the compression test simulation. It was meshed with hexahedral, truss and tetrahedral elements. During the whole process, a modeling technique of using hexahedral elements as the main component to mesh human spine model was developed and tested for its effectiveness of predicting local principal strain on…mehr

During the whole process, a modeling technique of using hexahedral elements as the main component to mesh human spine model was developed and tested for its effectiveness of predicting local principal strain on the surface of the vertebral body. The utilization of hexahedral solid elements allowed the detailed definition of the structure of human spine. In the framework of this book, a linear model was created and structural analysis was conducted by means of finite element analysis.
