This volume represents the first comprehensive commentary on all extent epigrams of Nicharchus II, who likely came from Egypt in the 2nd half of the 1st century AD. His satirical epigrams, written in Greek, were in part adapted from the Latin texts of Martial and were transmitted in the hand scrolls of the Anthologia Palatina and the Planudea; six new poems have been discovered since 1999 on parchment. The center of attention in these poems lies squarely in the entertaining life of the Greek banquet, as many quotes from the text reveal.
