Progressive loss of periodontal attachment is currently the leading cause of tooth loss. Attitudes towards the significance of our dental appearance have presented rapid changes as we step towards the future. Many dental conditions pass by patients unnoticed until they have reached a clinically advanced stage and pain or any major oral symptoms result. Gingival recession can however often be a very visible dental change that is noted by patients and which may cause them to seek the advice of a dentist. Gingival recession is known as the apical migration of the gingival margin beyond the cemento-enamel junction and its prevalence increases with age. Treatment proposals for this type of defect have evolved based on the knowledge for healing the gingiva and the attachment system. Hence, it is of paramount importance to diagnose areas with gingival recession and select an appropriate technique amongst the various treatment options available to treat the same. This book mentions in brief about the etiology, potential consequences, several classifications, and elaborately about the management options and several root coverage procedures available for the management of gingival recession.
