Machilus macrantha Nees. (Lauraceae) is an evergreen, extensively spread plant to Deccan region of India and Sri Lanka. Traditionally it is used for asthma, rheumatism, tuberculosis, ulcerations, bone fracture, weakness. Literature survey of the plant, Machilus macrantha Nees. revealed that the phytochemical and pharmacological study of the stem bark and oil did not report much in depth. Most of researchers have been claims/ investigated the activity of this plant as hypotensive, anti-inflammatory activity, antiasthmatic and antianaphylactic activity, antihistaminic or parasympatholytic activity, wound healing activity, antioxidant, cytoprotective & antibacterial activity. Recently, anti-inflammatory activity of the bark has been reported, but no one has tried to investigate phytochemical profile in detail which will be responsible for above stated pharmacological action. Therefore, such kind of multiple activities of these plants prompted us to investigate phytochemically, which have not been explored until now.
