Climate change is caused, among others, by a drastic increase in burning fossil fuels as well as significant changes in land development, which considerably affect the emission level of greenhouse gases, among them carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and sulphur oxide (SOx) into the Earth's atmosphere. The monograph is aimed at presenting the evolution of the energy and climate policy in the European Union, specifically concentrating on the process of low-emission transformation, which leads to changes in socioeconomic models of a member state. Global trends in emission levels have been presented together with a detailed analysis of the situation in member states. The study analysed diversity of countries in terms of GHG emissions in European countries to identify groups of similar countries according to the total emissions and emissions per capita. For this purpose, the methods of cluster analysis are used such as agglomerative approach and k-means method taking as attributes five greenhouse gases. The analysis was conducted for the years 2010, 2012 and 2014.
