Autorenporträt
Anne Wales Abbott, also written as Abbot, was an author, magazine editor, game designer, and critic who lived from April 10, 1808, to June 1, 1908. Abiel Abbott was a minister in Beverly, Massachusetts, and Eunice Abbott were her parents. Abbott was born on April 10, 1808. Abbott made the very famous card game Dr. Busby, which came out on March 7, 1843, from W. & S. B. Ives of Salem, Massachusetts. In the first eighteen months, it sold 15,000 copies. She wrote her second game, The Game of the Races, and J. P. Jewett sold it in Salem, Massachusetts, on January 13, 1844. If you look in W. & S. B. Ives's book DOCTOR BUSBY AND HIS NEIGHBORS, which was typeset on November 24, 1844 but didn't go on sale until December 28, 1844, you won't find any ads for The Game of the Races or any of their other published games. What does this mean? On September 14, 1844, she put out her third game, Master Rodbury. She used W. & S. B. Ives as the printer again this time. Abbott's first book, WILLIE ROGERS, came out before November 24, 1844. Her second book, DOCTOR BUSBY AND HIS NEIGHBORS, came out on December 28, 1844.
