'An Investigation of Computer Application to Painting In Nigeria', questions the apathetic disposition of art purists and artists to the use of the computer in creating paintings. Through a rare art historical methodology that combines the qualitative and quantitative approaches, the history of computer painting in Nigeria is established within the annals of contemporary Nigerian Painting. The investigation importantly, found and analysed the early examples of computer paintings in the country,as well as documented the artists. Through interviews and questionnaires,the views of respondents to the paintings were also established, bringing to fore its advantages and disadvantages. While the study of computer paintings may not have caught the fancy of painters, art historians and academic leaders in the field of Art in Nigeria, this research calls for its inclusion in the training curriculum of painting, in view of the capability of the medium to speedily promote cultural, political,social among other views of a people or group. The relevance of this research underpins the need to embrace changes ushered in by technological advancement.

Aondover Gabriel Gyegwe, PhD: studied Painting and Art History at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.He is a Painting lecturer at the department of Fine Arts, University of Maiduguri, Nigeria. As a studio artist, he executed a number of important national art projects as well as being a recipient to a national art award in Nigeria.
