Traditionally, in the field of linguistics and SLA, a good deal of research has concentrated on linguistic as well as on semantic transfer, but only few studies have treated conceptual transfer. Also, investigating conceptual transfer seems to be a new line of research and has begun only in the last fifteen years or so; therefore, it can have potential influence on second language acquisition and foreign language learning. Additionally, the work on conceptual transfer and the achievements of the studies to date have still been more exploratory than thorough examinations of the issues. Thus, this book could be of great importance for some reasons. First, it is an attempt in a new line of research which necessitates more investigations to clarify some of the ambiguities. Second, it is conducted through examinations which have been less addressed in the previous research. Third, it provides the reader with a good bulk of literature in this area of study.
