This book critically examines current patterns of menopausal symptoms and adaptive ability to them among indigenous resident of a South-western town of Nigeria, Ile-Ife. The town, Ile-Ife, is probably the oldest of the Yoruba people and considered to be their ancestral home. Even though it has always been assumed that African women adjust well to the changes occasioned by menopause, findings of this work negate the assumption. Change in trend of menopausal symptoms was also observed and women gave accounts of their adaptive strategies. The author suggests ways to prepare women for menopause.
