In November 2003, the National Theater of Bucharest held a symposium dedicated to the memory of Eugene O'Neill (in commemoration of 50 years since the playwright's death). Meanwhile, the American Studies program from the University of Bucharest encouraged an exploration of the structural affinities between the Romanian and American cultural spaces. These were the three main groundings for my doctoral project, whose theoretical bases consist in a correlation of several theories from the field of reception, translation and performance studies, all subsumed by the general idea of "(re)reading" the dramatic text.
