Yarralinga, South Australia Hi, I'm Julie. Jooles to my dad. He says it like I'm some sparkly diamond necklace-special and perfect. My life was like that. I had Mum and Dad and all our tribe, and my best friend Em. Yep, it was special and perfect, until the nasty lies started in third year high school and threatened to kill our forever friendship. I guess 'cos we're so different, we tried to cope in different ways. I was scared what Em's way would do to her. She seemed so alone. What do you do when others lie about you? When you're trying to work out who you are, who do you listen to? Who will tell the truth? 'Truth is a precious jewel,' Mum said. 'When you find it, hold tight to it. Fight for it.' Set in country South Australia in the early 1970s, Discovering Jooles follows Jooles and Em as they navigate the line between truth and lies to save their precious friendship, and to discover the freedom of forgiveness and the author of truth.
