As safety guidance, tolerable upper intake levels have been established by the Food and Nutrition Board, Institute of Medicine, at 1000 mg for - tocopherol (vitamin E) and 2000 mg for ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in adults. - Advise caregivers to provide adequate intake of vitamin C. For children about the age of 6 months and older, they should be provided twice daily with food rich in vitamin C preferably with meals, as a way of improving their iron absorption.
