Big brother loves to teach and take care of his little sister, Ava. When she needs surgery, he knows she will be okay because he taught her to be brave, and he will help her while she heals. Through words and pictures, this rhyming book for children shares the story of a big brother who vows to help his sister when she undergoes surgery to address her cleft lip and palate. A great tool to help teach and normalize clefts and facial differences, Ava The Brava uses a positive tone to introduce cleft lip and palate to the reader while also sharing a snippet of the cleft medical journey and how it can affect a child emotionally. Parents can utilize the story throughout, as well as Ava's unique treatment experiences to date and the parent-to-parent advice listed at the end of the book to help guide a discussion with their child. With themes of bravery, sibling support, kindness and self-love, Ava The Brava is an ideal resource for parents with young children.

Autorenporträt
Allie Ekblad is a former marketing executive turned author, illustrator and publishing company owner. As a mom of three young kids, she left the marketing world to spend more time at home and quickly started writing in her free time. Her children have served as her inspiration, particularly, particularly their courage and character that they exhibit as they face unique challenges. When her second child was born with a cleft lip and palate, she found that few children's books were available to help discuss the cleft journey with her three kids. So she wrote and illustrated her own book, starring her two oldest kids. From there, her love of writing, illustrating and publishing children's books has blossomed. She established her own publishing company, called Brave Face Kids Inc., to continue producing books that help kids to be brave and kind.
