Behçet's disease (BD) is a chronic autoimmune and multisystem vasculitis condition, characterized by a relapsing and remitting course that is primarily prevalent in populations by the side of Mediterranean Sea . The eponymous name of Behçet¿s disease was derived from the name of Hulusi Behçet¿s who was already Professor of Dermatology at the University of Istanbul. In 1937, he described a triple symptom complex of Behçet¿s disease: First transient aphtous changes in the mouth, secondly ulcerations on the genitalia and thirdly attacks of iritis, though the third symptom is not all the time present. The cause of this disease is assumed to be multifactorial, including infectious triggers, genetic predisposition, and immunodysregulation.
