Diffusion weighted imaging and ADC mapping, due to its ability to probe the tumoural microstructure, its short acquisition time, high repeatability and safety given the absence of intravenous administration of contrast medium, could be assumed to be the most noninvasive tool to differentiate between benign and metastatic lymph nodes and obviates the need for invasive, expensive imaging techniques such as PET[ Positron Emission Technology], SPECT [Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography] and USG guided FNAB [Ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration cytology/biopsy].
