Overcoming Language & Cultural Barriers in the Translation of Sana'ani Dialect into English with Special Reference to J.C.E. Watson's "Social Issues in Yemeni Popular Culture". The central aim of this study is to highlight Venuti's translation strategies Foreignization & Domestication that have been applied in translating culture-specific elements and dialectical expressions with special reference to Watson's translation. This book reveals the way in which Arabic culture-specific elements have been portrayed in foreign context. This study considers the validity of those cultural translation strategies and discusses thier applications in different occasions. According to the obtained results, both Foreignization and Domestication strategies have been used to overcome the language and cultural barriers in translation of Sana'ani Arabic into English. But foreignization has been used more as the most pervasive cultural strategy. The purpose of this work is to highlight Vanuti's translation strategies Domestication & Foreignization which applied in translating culture-specific elements and dialectical expression with social reference to prof. Watson's translation.
Autorenporträt
Awadh Baawaidhan was born in Hadhramaut, Yemen. He received his B.A from University of Aden, Yemen in 1995, then he got his M.A in English langauge at Sana'a University in Yemen in 2010. Now he is doing his PhD at the Faculty of Languages, Lodz University, Poland Republic. He held various teaching and research positons in both Yemen and Poland.
