Catheter-related urinary tracts infections (CAUTIs) have been associated with increased morbidity, mortality, hospital cost and length of stay. People requiring long term bladder draining with indwelling catheter can experience catheter blockage, and the presence of an indwelling urethral catheter predisposes to urinary tract infection. This study identified some risk factors associated with acquisition of these infections. Microbiological analysis of urine specimens of catheterized patients is necessary so as to ascertain the causative agents responsible for these nosocomial catheter-associated urinary tract infections and also to determine the antibiotic susceptibility patterns of the isolates. This book will be beneficial to patients, health professionals and the general public.
